As we continue to observe precautions related to COVID-19 pandemic, like avoiding in-person events and maintaining social-distancing etc., we are compelled to carry out all proceedings of this year’s Vassana Retreat (Rains Retreat) using our familiar web-resources like Zoom.
A formal invitation to observe the rainy retreat “Vas Aradhana” was extended to the venerable monk by the Gamage family as the principal sponsors of this year’s event on Tuesday, August 04, 2020 at 5.pm. The actual invitation was carried out at the Colorado Buddhist Vihara with the physical participation of the members of the sponsoring family only. Proceedings of the invitation were streamed live via zoom.
As a part of the Rains-Retreat observances, there will be;
Daily Buddha Vandana and Kids Dhamma Speech
A Buddha Vandana and Kids Dhamma speech every day at the usual 7.00 PM (MDT). Typically, the Buddha puja, the Buddha vandana, chanting and kids dhamma speech will be carried out from 7.00 PM to 7.45 PM. With regards to the Buddha puja, an offering of the permissible drinks and juices (Gilanpasa) along with the other puja-items such as flowers, lighted candles and incense sticks etc. should be carried out at the residences of the families sponsoring the day’s event.
Special weekly Dhamma Sermon
A special weekly Dhamma Sermon program commencing on Saturday 8th August to Saturday 31st October. This will include homage to the Buddha, Buddha Vandana and chanting followed by a special Dhamma sermon. The sermon will be delivered by invited monks, from Sri Lanka, USA and elsewhere, and we expect to have a few of them delivered in English. You may obtain a Dhamma Sermon (bana) sponsorship via the Google Sheet and may also include a donation towards the expenses necessary for the upkeep of the temple. If you have suggestions for a particular monk to deliver the sermon, please include a request and coordinate the event.
Recognizing the great support of the temple by the devotees, we will use the daily dana sheet as the basis for the Vassana period as well. If someone is not on the existing list and would like to sponsor a day, please inform the temple.
Please inform the monk in writing details about any special ways the merits accrued by this immensely meritorious deed should be dedicated to (pin anumodana) such as names of departed loved ones or the names of those to whom you wish for long life, good health or elimination of adversities.
Please make a strong determination (Adhitthana) to make this Rains-Retreat an opportunity to follow the footsteps of the Enlightened Beings and engage in highly meritorious activities such as learning and practicing Dhamma, developing insight meditation and so forth. Please try to get your entire family to participate. May all these immensely meritorious activities performed in this Vassana-season lead you down the path to Enlightenment with the blessings of the merits accrued, may you all be well, happy, peaceful and successful.
